PROGRAM THEMESContinuing Professional Development (CPD)Points – Dental Board of Australia As of 1July 2010 all dental practitioners in Australia are required to meet CPDrequirements set by the Dental Board of Australia. Practitioners arerequired to complete 60 hours for Continuing Professional Development within a3 year period. Attendanceat the General Anaesthesia in Paediatric Dentistry Seminar will accrue 7 hourstowards your CPD requirements. The Seminar is also accredited for CPD Points withthe New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA)

The Seminaris expected to attract over 150 attendees primarily from Australia and NZ. Delegates will be drawn from both private and public dental practices. It is expected that attendees will comprise general dentists who treat children, specialist paediatric dentists and allied staff and nurses who assist with GA procedures in children. The meeting will be of particular interest to those who work in rural areas. BACK
SPEAKERS Professor Nigel M King BDS, MSc, PhD, LDS RCS(Eng), FHKAM (Dental Surgery), FCDSHK (Paediatric Dentistry), FDS RCS (Edin), MRACDS (Paed) Nigel King, who is Professor in Paediatric Dentistry in the Faculty of Dentistry at The University of Hong Kong, holds BDS and MSc degrees with honours from the University of London. His PhD was awarded by the University of Hong Kong for work on the prevalence and aetiology of developmental defects of enamel in Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Dental Surgery) and a Fellow of the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has been the Associate Dean for Facilities and Educational Resources, Director of the PPDH/HKU Cleft Lip and Palate Centre and Director of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital. Currently, he is the Director of Postgraduate Studies in Paediatric Dentistry. Professor King is the Chairman of the Board of Examiners for the Hong Kong Dental Council Licensing Examination and a member of the Hong Kong Dental Council. In addition, he has examined for the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Australasia, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, University of Kuwait and the University of Malaya. In 1994/95 he was the Visiting Research Fellow to the University of Otago in New Zealand, and in 1996 he was visiting Professor to New York University. He has supervised the research projects of 3 PhD students, and over 50 postgraduate diploma and master students in Paediatric Dentistry. Professor King has published over 200 scientific papers, and 15 chapters in dental text books.
 Dr Peter John Gregory BDSc, MDSc, FRACDS, FICD
Dr Peter Gregory obtained his BDSc from The University of Western Australia in1969. Following ten years ingeneral practice in Midland, Western Australia, he completed his MDSc in Paediatric Dentistry, also from The University of Western Australia. He proceeded to Chicago, USA where he was a Visiting Associate Professor at The Northwestern University Dental School and Children’s Memorial Hospital (1981-1982). On his return from The United States of America, he was admitted as a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. His credentials include Past President of The Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry (WA Branch President and Federal President), Past President of The Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and an Examiner and Member of the Board of Studies of The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.He currently holds the positions of Visiting Paediatric Dentist at The Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (Perth, Western Australia), Clinical Lecturer at The University of Western Australia, and has been in private specialist practice in paediatric dentistry in Perth, Western Australia since 1983. He has lectured widely in paediatric dentistry and his interests include restorative dentistry under general anaesthesia and paediatric dental trauma.

 Dr Jane Mcdonald Dr McDonald completed her medical degree with honours at the University of NSW in 1979. She completed post-graduate training in anaesthesia in 1985 to obtain her FANZCA (Fellow of Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists). She completed another two years as a Fellow in Anaesthesia at The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children. She is currently a Visiting anaesthetist at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Westmead Public Hospital. Since 1989 she has provided general anaesthetics to children being treated at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health. She has a particular interest in paediatric dental anaesthesia and is involved in teaching anaesthetic trainees in paediatric anaesthesia.  Dr Lydia Lim BDS(Hons), MDSc, FRACDS, FRACDS (OMS) Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Lydia is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and currently in private practice in Chatswood, Sydney. She is a graduate of the University of Sydney and she completed the Sydney post-graduate training program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Westmead Hospital in 1994. During her training, she obtained her MAsters in Oral and MAxillofacial Surgery and the specialist qualification FRACDS (OMS). Lydia then furthered her surgical training in the United States and was a Clinical Fellow at University of Texas, Houston. She currently holds hospital appointments at the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Hunters Hill Private Hospital and Concord Hospital. She has been involved in post-graduate teaching at the University of Sydney Orthodontic program for orthognathic surgery over the past 10 years. Lydia has a special interest in orthognathic surgery and dental implants.

Mr Gavan Robinson
Following a ten year period of critical carenursing, Gavan Robinson embarked in 1999 upon a new career path of perioperative nursing. Initially at North Shore Private Hospital as a RegisteredNurse then Clinical Nurse Specialist. He joined Hunters Hill Private Hospital in April 2006 as the Anaesthetic and Recovery Manager. Since September 2007 he has been the Operating Theatre Manager. HuntersHill has several specialities including Dental, ENT, Opthalmic, Plastic,Orthopaedic and General surgery. They have a significant paediatric proportion of patients who require specialised pre and post operative care. Gavan believes this challenges himself and his colleagues to ensure the highest standard of clinical care is provided to these patients. As well all staff, he appreciates the unique nature of having parental involvement in the theatre setting. In September 2009 he commenced a Management Development Course provided by the Ramsay Training Institute. He hope this makes him a better boss... only time will tell.
 Dr John P Fricker BDS MDScGrad Dip Ed (Adult) MRACDS(Orth) FRACDS FADI FPFA FICD Orthodontist,Canberra. Completed his dental and orthodontic training at Sydney University,graduating with an MDSc in 1979. Visiting Specialist, Maxillo-Facial Unit, TheCanberra Hospital. Has presented as an invited speaker on a wide variety of orthodontictopics both in Australia and overseas Has published research in refereedjournals in Australia and the USA and contributed to chapters in text books,including “Handbook of Pediatric Dentistry” by Cameron and Widmer.
 Dr Peter Wong BDS(Hons), MDSc, Dip Clin Dent (Sedation), FRACDS, FICS, FACD Dr Wong graduated with a BDS(Hons) from the University of Sydney in 1985. He completed his specialty training in 1991 and is also a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Peter has also completed a clinical diploma in sedation and pain control. Dr Wong runs a very busy specialist children's dental practice in the Australian Capital Territory, servicing a large rural region of NSW. He has particular interests in trauma, dental anomalies and management of patients under sedation. Peter is currently a visiting specialist at the Children's Hospital Westmead, Sydney and also a Visiting Specialist at The Canberra Hospital. He is also a fellow of the International College of Dentists and a fellow of the Academy Dentistry International.
Dr Eduardo Alcaino BDS (Hons) FRACDS MDSc Grad Dip Clin Dent (Sedation & Pain Control)
Eduardo A. Alcaino is a paediatric dentist who has been in full time specialist private practice since 1999. After completing his BDS (Hons) at the University of Sydney in 1988, he worked in general private practice for 8 years. He is currently a Specialist Clinical Associate with the University of Sydney as well as a visiting specialist at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health (WCOH) and Sydney Dental Hospital (SDH), in Sydney-NSW. He gained his Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) in 1992 and at present runs two private specialist practices in Burwood and Bondi junction, Sydney. He is a current Board Member of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD). His clinical and research interests are devoted to paediatric dental sedation.
